1. Far beyond Jordan
Originally written as a cornet trio this extended work may be effectively presented as a solo duet or trio. The presentation of the main theme is followed by three variations with all parts written to be well within the capabilities of young developing players.
2. All through the night An arrangement of the famous Welsh tune suitable as a lyrical solo for Bb instruments (cornet, trombone or euphonium)

Two pieces that will introduce the key elements of swing music to younger players, namely simple syncopation and the concept of playing quavers in a swing style. As with all 'From the Beginning' arrangements these are especially designed to be simple yet effective.
1. Ellington on Duke Street
The familiar tune of Duke Street mixed with the style of Duke Ellington's 'Take the A Train.'
2. We're a Band...Here an old Salvation Army tune 'We're a band that shall conquer the foe' is combined with elements of the jazz classic 'St. Louis Blues' to form a simple swing march.

These come to you having been fully tested with young players in a variety of settings in music schools all over the USA and Canada
The books are graded in that each book expects a little more from each player but even the arrangements in book four are designed to be playable even for players with limited experience.
